Use multi-level watering: in the morning or late evening, when evaporation is minimal. Mulch around plants reduces soil evaporation and also suppresses weed growth. Monitor soil moisture using simple sensors or a &#8220;hand-in-depth&#8221; test to prevent over-watering or drying out of the roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget about the landscape approach: surrounding shrubs and trees create shade and reduce the temperature in the beds, which helps save water.
