Soil is the garden’s most important resource. Before sowing, it is useful to analyze and determine the pH level, and then adjust it if necessary with lime or sulfuric acid. Adding compost and rotted manure improves the soil structure and replenishes its organic content. Preparing the beds includes loosening to a depth of about 20-25 centimeters and removing the remains of last year’s plants, which reduces the risk of soil contamination.

If you plan to grow vegetables and herbs within the same area, prepare the hole lines, drainage and greenhouses or shelters in advance. Timely preparation for planting will minimize plant stress during transplantation and ensure uniform germination. Practice mulching with straw or peat chips to retain moisture and suppress weeds during the summer.
